THE DRIVE
January 1st, 2013, we loaded our 16' Penske and left the Peveto's house. Bonnie and Johnnie prepared a full South Texas breakfast, loaded our truck with drinks and snacks for the trip, and got us on the road at 8:04 AM.

We have lived our entire lives in Texas. As we drove into Louisiana on our way to New York, we realized that we were leaving Texas.
On our 1st day we drove 10 hours, traveled 660 miles, and spent the 1st night in Hattiesburg, MS.
The 1st day we left Texas as our home. The 2nd day, we left the Central Time Zone and ended our day in Knoxville, TN. These are interesting changes to our lives.
On our 2nd day we drove 490 miles in 8 hours.
On our 3rd day we drove 480 miles in 7 1/2 hours. That landed us in Hagerstown, MD.
This was our 1st day with sunshine. It came out around noon and at the same time we began seeing snow on the ground from the previous evening.
Our 4th day was 210 miles. The day was sunny and the country side was completely covered with snow. Thankfully, the highway was free of snow and ice. That landed us in Scranton, PA. The temperatures that night were in the low 20s.
Our 5th day covered 200 miles and brought us to Teaneck, NJ. Importantly, we arrived at our 1st destination, Claryville, NY, and left items there.
On this day of driving we saw ice fishing, ground completely covered with snow, and many small villages.
The previous time we left Claryville it looked like this.
The memory rocks we stacked together a year ago were difficult to find in the snow.
For the older members of the Tankersley Family, we delivered Shella and Cleon Thornton's bed and love seat in Abilene, Texas to Claryville in the Catskills of New York.
The evening of the 5th day we staged ourselves at the entrance of the George Washington Bridge for our final 16' Penske assault on Manhattan.
Day 6, Sunday, January 6th, 2013, was the day for the 16' Penske to assault Manhattan!
All went well driving and parking in the city and we delivered "The Beast", the Penske, to a facility high in Harlem. Now, completely void of a motorized vehicle, we walked to Sylvia's Soul Food Restaurant in Harlem for lunch.
We found more Southern comfort food than we could eat. A woman walks around the restaurant from noon until 4:00 PM singing spirituals with live musical backup. She announced where people in the restaurant are from and we heard from every continent except Antarctica.
The drive summarized is: We drove 2,070 miles, slept 5 nights on the road, saw lots of beautiful country, and accomplished our goal.
We are now at home at: 885 6th Avenue, #34D, New York, NY 10001.
